    Hi David. If you are referring to the pots or pedestals. Those were done with ferro cement. If referring to mosaics and what's underneath, mortar and thinset over armature.

    David, the sphynx was made with gray cement, white sand, and liquid black colorant that I stirred in at the end of mixing so that it had some striations. Poured into a cylinder mold made from metal flashing. I had studied pics off the net of other sphynxes. And drew mine to fit the mold. It was a long complicated carve. Took about 6 - 8 hours, if I remember correctly.
