I my self like to share within the trade group, say in this case a cement forum.  For instance, in other forums like of blacksmiths, people aren`t so hermetic about sharing  tricks of the trade, contrarywise, they all  learn from one another. One feels they are comrades. Being that the case, just about everyone here will hold back commenting much about his work and tricks. What so precious about our work? or will doing so guarranties being or trying to be that clitche "Number One" in the business? With due respect to all VA members, it does not seem an altruistic practice within people of a "BROTHERHOOD" whatever that means. Hope this doesn`t fall in the category of unsolicited criticism. Constructive criticism, we should not be afraid off. Holding back to see reality and speak up the truth does nothing for our growth as professionals and as persons, all different, special, and unique in our own ways. Leave all that hog wash propietary stuff for the bag mix dudes. Generosity pays off more than we think. Happy New Year everyone.

hello nelson. thought i might chime in here... having been an active member of the forum for a year not long i know but long enough too tell you with confidence that many many artists on this forum are more than willing to share ideas and techniques and trade secrets or what not. with that said there are many  people including the creator of this forum and several other professionals who sell there secrets and techniques in form of dvds, online videos, tools, mixes, kits, and web sites all of wich they have years of time and money into in some cases lifetimes of knowledge that they are offering for a fee......with that said many of the people on this site have paid for these said items and info . this is probably a large reason as to the reserved sharing of info, techniques ,tools etc... however i do know that many have been given info privately to help beginners and experienced alike achieve there goals or take that next step.

you speak of comrades def of which is one who shares in ones activities, occupation etc... companion, associate,or friend... this is the same as a brotherhood def which is...all hose engaged in a particular trade or profession or sharing a common interest or quality. the quality of acting brotherly; fellowship. so you see its the same thing said with different words by different people .

and as for leaving the hog wash proprietary stuff for the bag mix dudes..... i believe that makes up for more than half the members on this forum including some of the best in the buiss so i dont know what thats about?

and you make a great point that we are all unique individuals with or own tastes and styles so with that said i find that makes it that much harder to crituque someones work as one mans junk is another mans treasure! and nowhere is that more true than in the art world where one can see a splashy mess of paint on canvas and another will see the passion and anger or love used to toss colors that have as much meaning as the way they are tossed being sold for hundreds of thousands of dollars. i will also add that there are other ways besides blunt bashing of ones work to help them "improve" there work. asking ques goes a long way into easing towards a disscusion of why things were dun the way they were and POSSIBLY opening the door to talk about why this or that may not be the way you feel it should be at the same time giving the creator a chance to explain /defend his work.

these are just my thoughts and in no way am i trying to offend anyone or attack anyone. this was simply my thoughts for what there worth and felt compelled to share.

HAPPY NEW YEAR ALL!!

Scott, thanks for your reply. Great point made if one could average your view and mine so to speak. Most probably we have more things in common than issues to disagree upon, but in any case respecting others views, understanding the great diversity of personalities, experiences, etc. , is itself the best stand, without resorting to prohibiting expressing one`s opinions or so on. This  sort of exchange, and any other sort including the professional field, if done tecnically, tactfully but sincerely, is what I believe to be most useful. In all, I cherish your attitude, and hope some of us can rip benefits of any kind for every exchange taking place in this forum. I`m not against selling hard-earned knowledge at all, no! As a matter of fact, I`m sending for my DVD training set on Vert work. Very glad, there`s formal ways of accesing to valuable professional info and tips. Peace and love, lol, and wish EVERYONE here the best the future can bring. Happy New Year!!!

I have no secrets (in the rock biz) and my door is always open to answer any questions, because I do believe in the brotherhood and sour at some of my brethren who at low points of income or spurring from spouses try to generate some type of monetary  relief to justify the massive amount of time and labor that is required to take it to the next level. Saying all that I want to wish all a Happy,Blessed , and Prosperous New Year.

PS make it quick cause 2012 is the end of the world as we know it

Ha,ha,ha, Don, great man! Very generous of you ... that`s what being a family is all about, ain`t  it? Discussions, some times heated ones, enjoying,  making up, sharing ups`and down`s, and back with one another.  Best regards .

I can see both points of views ( Don`s and Alfred`s) quite clearly! can you guys?? and one could say both are valid, and have a good degree of logic to them. As opposed as they seem, if one scratches a bit deeper beyond skin thickness, one could find more similarities than differences, all relative . Having said that, why should I take a stand against either? Best stay at the middle and callèm both friends, LOL
