I would be interested in going to one of your job sites in the future to check out your formula. That would be great. I joined the forum after you told me about it. Nobody except for David Driggs has ever contacted me, but I don't think I responded because he didn't tell me where he was from. It looks he's someone you know. I've gotten a few pranks from people looking for things other than concrete work, if you know what I mean. :-) So thanks for your note, and maybe I'll see you on a job site sometime.

A "professional" said he could fix it up, and while he made it load fast, he made it look like crap. I was so mad, I had one of my boys disable it and start work on a new one. Until then........

I sure wish I could tell you that I had some great master plan and the ideal materials for that pub job. Fact is, the whole thing was done on the fly. The base is Miracote micro over quarry tile. Smith Paints applied random by trowel for the background. The logo and border was hand drawn by my 16 yr old from a business card and a celtic design found by the owner, and he made a paper stencil of the dog/knot to keep the four corners consistent. We used a bunch of metallics, done by adding pearlex powders to the stains. They wanted an old world, hand painted look, and we were able to deliver. It sure was fun. Not as clean as your world map design, which I sure liked. Let's see that one finished up, by the way.

As for some of your questions, I am using a sealer from DuPont that is a modified version of a catalyzed automotive clearcoat. It's hard to obtain, at least reliably, but I am working on a better source that I can pass on to all on this network without any additional markup. The satin finish would blow you away with how natural it looks and feels. I am with you regarding epoxies. I always hated the look, feel, performance and application issues. That doesn't leave much to like. I haven't heard of the one you mentioned, but should probably check it out. The colors I mostly use are Smith Paints. I have a feeling we'll probably share a few pointers back and forth over time, let me know if you want to know how I sell texture. It's not too difficult. By the way, if you haven't done so already, check out bobby Leatherwood's Picassacrete page. Top notch textured tops there as well. Stay in touch!

Winget said…: Randy get some low voltage wire and a dimmer switch and remove half of the wire and replace it with nikel cadium wire use the dimmer switch to control the heat and cut EPS any length you want, cost you maybe 10 bucks. I'm currently working on a second project with a classmate from my hand carving vertical concrete class. Her name is Dawn Bray also a forum member and she will be posting those pictures when it's done, but you can see the progress on my blog page, http://www.vantaggiocreations.blogspot.com
We are doing 2 columns and 3 arches in her basement. It's alot of work but it's looking amazing!
