Thanks for the welcome Scott! You already know my partner in crime. i've been meaning to join VA for over a year now. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone's work and getting some inspiration and tips!
With the incredible wood work you do, you seem to be one who might have sound advise for what I am looking to do. My house has about 20 pine doors. They where built in the 60's and are good quality wood, with sound joints. The have some ugly glossy poly finish on them. I want to refinish them and get a hand rubbed non gloss antique type of finish. Any suggestions on what to use would be greatly appreciated. Hope things are going well for ya down there. We have been in the 80's temp wise here. Feels like I'm living back in Florida.
I´m here to learn. I work in Spain with my little company and we make construcction works and exterior wood works , but sometimes I am working in amusements parks and they want a small works of artificial rocks (in penguins , sea lions or elephants zone). I need to learn of you because in Spain is very dificoult to learn and only I can to experiment.... (Sorry for my english , only speak spanish).
I have no training at all, I am an electrician that saw a video on YouTube
and want to be able to do this. I think it is amazing and would look good in my yard.
hello scott, thanks for your help.i was able to get a mix,but it was too clayey,i am continuing to alter the mix to see how it goes,i think the reason for that is that there is too much clay in the sand that i am using.I am going to try silica sand this weekend to see how it goes.Rgds
Thank you for the welcome Scott. I am exploring this wonderful site and finding it incredibly rich with dedicated artisans and pertinent information! My educational background is in Sculpture; lost-wax casting, carving, molding, etc. I have some experience working with cast concrete, but I'm especially interested in vertical work at this time. Looking forward to exploring this site more thoroughly. I'm also a part-time proof-reader for several publications. (That explains the comment on spelling in my application.) I'd be glad to proof any written correspondence for your site. Seriously. It's the least I can do as payback for this wonderful online educational source! Cheers!
Thanks Scott. What a great trade to be in. It beats working for a living. I'm going to the west coast training center this coming weekend, so should be fun to meet some other carvers and learn some cool techniques. I live about two hours away from there. Anyways thanks for the comment.
Hey Scott, hope all is well. I've been away for awhile, and just trying to get caught back up now. I sure like what you did on that last job. Keep on........
DAVID!!! ....... all is well buiss is kickin and we are busy busy..... thanks a bunch!! we are almost dun with los cabos i will hopefully have a vid /walk through when dun but def lots o pics!!
Supercool work Scott, I love all those pics. So many details to catch, sure I missed tons of 'em, too! Awesome combo of your stone and wood skills. Love those burned off beam ends, too.
Im new to the decorative stone, I have been doing spray deck and uro tile.I noticed that most everybody uses liquid colors, like the acid base, soy base, and water based stains. Im wondering if anyone has used powder shading color. Advanced surfaces product is the only one i have been able to find.I use it doing uro tile and i think its something worth checking out.
hola scot tengo un pequeño laboratorio donde pude patentar una formula par preparar mis propios mixer de concreto, para hacer las rocas, esto es debido a que me gusta la quimica y experimento con pinturas y pigmentos
Thanks for sending me the "friend" request . . . . I accepted . . . :)
I've not started my project as yet . . . still looking for a source to buy my supplies, but more importantly, I need a "RECIPE/s" for lightweight concrete.
Got my drawings all sorted, I have even got drawings for my SECOND project, and I'm "chompin at the bit" to get going. How's that eh! got my second project "Planned" and haven't even started the first one! he he he
May I ask, what you use as your "Mix" for making rocks?
OR maybe, could you suggest a "Link" with relevant, lightweight concrete mix information.
I don't particularly want to by a "Commercial" mix, but would rather make my own.
Are there different mixes for different project types? Also, what would you recommend as "Coloring" agents?
As I said, I can't wait to get started. I have read so so much on the Internet and I have "Information Overload".
Hoping that you can PLEASE help me - Your friend - Pam
Thanks for the comments Scott, I'm glad to be a part of the vertical artisan family and very much looking forward to expanding my skills and knowledge with the help of Nathan and everyone on this site.
Thanks for the Welcome Scott! I'm a newbie and in love with the idea of Vertical concrete. I plan to learn this "art" and apply it to my own house, inside and out. Possibly to become skilled enough to make a living at it.
