Hey Jeff, I haven't gotten into the mix quite yet. That 3 wk. Cape stint wore me out, needed some recovery time. Plus, had to deliver those 50 bags cross town, down to a basement, along w/ 50 bags of mortar mix. Quite the workout to say the least. Truth be told, I also have to get my mud legs back, as I told someone else. It's been a long time since I've done anything creative w/crete. I'm going to play w/2 bags tomorrow, then knock out the countertop on the job, then back to vert. I'm trying out a new recipe for the top, pretty excited about it. I'll report back to you on that.
Sound good david. I'm looking forward to talking to you about that. Good luck. I'm gonna modify kirtbag a bit and pour a top with it and some mason mix. Should be plenty strong and finish great. Let you know.
Hey kenny. This is a free labor job. I am trying to do the most with the least amount of money. I put a little 4in thick concrete around the bottom to lock it in and welded the pieces together. Not any footer or anything. Just hoping it will ride the frost. lol
Hey Jeff, still working on that job. Today I got a bunch of color down on the columns, back wall and hidden drawers. Tomorrow we should finish carving and get some more color. Wed and Thurs should wrap up the barn wood and little details. Hope that's not overly optomistic.
I live just outside Windsor.Ontario.Canada and have read all the positive feedback about your mix.I'm interested in trying it out.If you don't have a distributor around me I may be interested in filling the roll. You have no competition at all within 200 miles of here.I could have some potentially very promissing contacts. My email is quicktv@bellnet.ca .
hey Jeff,im over just behind the new TJ MAX by highway n,,have to meet up and have a beer when im back home, over in england on a project at moment in a safari park, hopefully speak to you later mate
I used Kirt's Bag carving mixture in my Retaining wall project Dallas , TX, It was about 860 Face feet , I'm a #3 generation professional Mason, really familiar with mixtures and cementations. I can say Jeff's mixture made my project happen .
Well kenny, thats all you have to do with the current kirtbag carving mix. You just add it to mortar or mason mix. Yes, this formula will be less material, less weight for shipping and the workability of the current mix. Its incredible.
Hey Robert, its going well. No snow yet, and ya, slinging some mud. Just finished the last carve on the sign im doing. Ready for color but its supposed to rain the next couple days so that will be put off for a bit. I will be starting a job after the new year, a shower, some columns, and a wall. Should be good. Your water feature is massive, and looks good. Hope all is well going well for ya. Im looking forward to 2012 to get kirtbag out there and the new formula to be debuted soon after. Keep warm and keep up the great work.
hey jeff, flying back next monday mate ,leaving here, got hour lay over in paris then to atlanta ga,then got to get down to valdosta ga my mate is looking after my truck, then the big drive back to stlouis
Kenny, they make exterior acrylics. You paint your houses exterior with acrylics. Sealer is an acrylic. Anything you use on an exterior will need maintenance regardless of what it is. You can use exterior acrylic waterbased paints that will last for a long time. Nothing stays as brilliant over time as when you first apply it. You should prob seal anything exterior whether it be a gloss or natural sealer. Ive used acrylic on everything ive done and dont seem to have any problems. Just my opinion.
theres lots of stuff to use for coloring and i think a varied use of these is a good way to go due to the fact that they are as varied as the colors they come in!! some come in semi transparent stains some are basically solids some are bright some are dull and natural some soak in some are more topical some even use a chemical process to change the color.
my point being is never limit yourself to just one thing and never completely block out a product beacuse of pre conceived notions that it will not perform due to another brand or type of said color or product didnt work in the past. they absolutely make acrylics for extirior use i personaly have seen a large water feature dun primarily with acrylics and it is on ALOT and in the sun and it looks great to this day . im not trying to debunk you or anything kenny but just want to see more of an open mind!
Hi Jeff. I had a great time at WOC and I really enjoyed meeting you and the others. It is always good to meet the people you deal with and put a face to the phone calls.
Thank for your support , I know noting is easy , Im not going to use my friends photos in my website , I think by next week I will have only picures that are mine .
Nathan offers me to use his pictures if I join the membership , but I think this will make Thom's even mad , this is another motive for him to pick on again .
I dont have a lot pictures on my own and dont have much experience as you know , but if that makes Thom (the rat) happy just let be .
Im a good person, always work hard to keep my reputation in good stands , I dont have time to wast with Thom and his childish , He's no longer will have any motive to pick on me .
I just want him out of my life and I hope he have a wonderful time, so he's not going to worry about me and what Im doing .
I think Jody Smith went thru the same with Thom, dont know much of what happen on that subject , but he dont pick on Jody .
Hey Fernando, no prob. We should all just be able to get along on these forums. We are all striveing for the same end result, to expand this industry, to get work, put out our art for everyone to see, make a living and learn. Anything else is just irrevelant. You just keep doing what you do and everything will work itself out. Just keep learning and doing and things will come your way. I know you very well and we have talked plenty. You know how i feel and thats whats important. You have been nothing but gracious to me and i look forward to working with you in the future.
Hey, Kirt! I'd really like to try your mix....anything that may work better for me or be a bit less freight-wise will be great! I've been looking at some of your work, and it is awe-inspiring. Hope that one day I'll have some work ranked up there with you masters. :)
Hey duder still no exact word on this wall. I'm in giv'r mode goin balls to the walls to get this showroom done. As soon as I do we will have the city of Toronto guys over to see some samples and then they'll decide which style they want. At that point we ll probably start about a week later. My best educated guess would be about 4 weeks from now. . I hope u kids are still down to rip up here and we can show this city what were capable of.
no jeff i got beat up prettybad on price for this job and had alot of my own mix layin around so i went with it but depending on how this job goes i just hopefully might become a regular customer or distributer for you1 i know ive talked alot in the past and many things have not gone my way but dont give up on me yet!!
Thank you jeff for your gracious response... and I thank can assist me in my doubts, because mixture did not know kirtbag as is you could mix with the type of mortar, either direct or with mortar integrated sand in the same bag, which was very necessary to know your product, thank you and good day!.....
Jeff ,I cast the stamps off of the molds, i think they came out pretty good. I wound up getting three units of the casting material and the dam things are pink but I cant wait to use them. Hey I really like that logo Nathans got on the front page It is very catchy to the eyes. I think it would look nice on a shirt you could even go over the top with it and make it like a concert shirt or UFC style and put contributing artisans on the back and really draw some attention. I wouldn't mind running around with one at the World of Concrete wit u guys.. just sayinnnn......... geo
Hey George, I'm glad those stamps worked out. I'm sure your in touch with your feminine side ennough to use pink stamps. Only real men use pink stamps, lol. Ya, I've got a lady down here that will do long sleeve t shirts for $15 bucks total for everything. Going to make up a bunch to take to the Oregon training. I will save you one and send it to ya. Talk to you soon buddy.
I would love to talk about it Kenny if I only knew what we were talking about. Tensile straight at 2" gage length is foreign to me. Remember it's a decorative overlay material not meant to be structural. So, maybe we should start over.
As stated earlier, I'm a newbie and anxious to learn this skill (art). Mostly for my own home, and then will see where it goes. I do think I would enjoy doing this work for money at some point. Seems very rewarding to stand back and see something great literally molded by your own hands.
My desire is to clad my home entirely with sculpted concrete. Beyond technique and skill of carving, I will want to assure proper prepping techniques of house to put a lasting cladding that protects and beautifies the home.
Certainly seems this "art" is limitless. I see what yourself and others have done on here and I am truly amazed what is possible! There are amazing artisans on this site! Makes my mind swirl with ideas I want to accomplish on my property.
Foresure Matt. Your right, there are many skilled artists on here that will help you with your pursuit of vertical carving. Don't be afraid to ask questions, they may prevent you from making unneeded mistakes. Good luck and happy carving.
Thanks for your opinion Kenny. Please tell me where I blamed anyone for my mistake. I'm not sure you have any idea how I run my business, nor how to run one of your own. I have brochures I usually put in my orders, but being human I forgot. I'm just curious what it is you actually do here. Artist, manufacturer, trainer? You seem to have the answer to everything but do nothing.
Hey Kenny, the vertical world is ever changing. There are demands on mixes that weren't there a few years back. If you don't change with it you will be left behind. Yes, the mix was and still is great, but it can always be better. Listening to customers and using it myself, I've learned that it has the potential to be even better. Sometimes things have to run a course to really see what needs to be changed. I know you have never used the mix so it may be hard for you to understand. I'm not changing the mix because it's not doing what I want it to do, I'm changing it because I've researched and talked to professionals in the business like chemists and people with degrees and listened to there advice. I feel like with a little tweeking, the mix will be even better than before. I don't really see what's wrong with that. Look forward not behind.
Kenny, I really don't know what you want me to say. The psi will be the same if not a bit stronger. It has always stayed off the floor, it's gonna be the same cost, and carve better. It will be able to do thinner applications better than before. Why don't you buy some and try it out instead of debating something you have never experienced. What else would you want it to do, carve itself? You have been on and off this forum with deceit and negativity. So far I haven't seen anything from you. What's the deal? Are you just on here to mess with people or are you gonna do something besides write Kenny was here in some mud. When's your mix coming out? I am still in the testing phase, just like I said on my post. I have to put more time and testing in before I reveal everything. That's why I said details to come. Hope this helps you.
Hey Kenny, I only waterproof or seal stuff near or in water or if I use stains instead of acrylics. Stain need the uv protection because the fade if you don't.
Thanks Kirt! I was gonna call you 2maro,about ordering some product!Glad your in Texas that closed the Deal!ha,ha...I checked out your Work,Buddy it's amazing,I've been doing everything you can do to flat work.Sure like the way your product looks!Talk to you, tomorrow and thanks for the friend add on....
