Hey Scott nice work on the firestone project. I was just surfing photos and saw this. I've seen alot of your photos.
Very broad spectrum. What is your background. Is this your day job?
THANKS DAVE!! my background from the start was wood work and cabinetry in my fathers shop from about 12 years old till about 21 also learning many things from my uncle also a master wood worker and finisher. after that i got hired by a builder who had massive contracts building out more than 50 % of the downtown fortmyers area lots of restoration and belive it or not a lot of unique and state of the art (for the time) materials and teqniques i was a working foreman then a what i call special teams supertedent.lol. i was introduced to many trades and worked cloley with as many as possible picking there b rain as it were lol for all ithe info i could get. while working for this company i started making furniture and custom decor on the side training with a master metal worker/fabricator and getting guidence in wood carving all the while using my furniture and such as a practice grounds of sorts for all this knowledge. then i found concrete countertops with fu tung cheng of cheng design. i did this for a few years and expanded into remodeling and custom work in peoples homes. the buiss i worked for started moving into multimillion dollar homes. we did many .then the crash came and we bombed quick and early i was on my own and without even realising it i had built an impressive clientel from all the work i had done for that buiss so i started my own buiss not long after my brother joined with me and i found vertical artisans and this has added greatly to my skill set and opened many doors for me.
my buissness Dobert Custom Artisans has started to realize our dreams of beacoming a successful themed enviorment creation team able to make highly realistic/believable enviorments both residential and commercial!
with that said i can happily answer yes believe it or not this is my day job! dont get me wrong i still do plenty of the norm but morre and more we are getting the custom work with an exciting year shaping up!
Thats great Scott, thats the path I am hoping to take as well.I have a background in concrete countertops. Once I figure out how to post pics I will. I have a profile edge that is concrete copper plated with a couple different
patinas that someone with your background could appreciate. I wanted to ask the forbidden question that I hear people ask all the time but never see it answered. Keep in mind I know it is generic in regards to demographic, skill level, volume you are able to produce in a day etc.
What is a base point for carving a wall or column, fire table? I am in Seattle now and the contractors here charge $45 per hr on remodels. Just starting out without a reputation and picture book of past project.I hope to start carving next week I have a post scratched and ready to go. Any info regarding pricing for someone just getting started would be helpful. I am very fussy and won't put anything out there that I would'nt put in my own home.
Very Cool. I'm going to have to check this place out while I'm in town.
THANKS BRYAN!! have your people call my people we'll do lunch lol!
