Thanks, the metal support posts go up one of those 4 corner stones on each of the columns. It's been time consuming but worth it. The insides of those are where I tore up my hands. I ended up using a body putty applicator to finish the carve coat, because they can be bent in a radius to work the arches. One down, 3 to go!

rubber drywall cove trowels work nice too very flexible but stiff enugh too spread material.
