i aggree with jeff. almost all overlayments of any kind like a light misting of the substrate first it helps with adhesion and bond due to the fact that the dry substrate will suck the moisture out real quickly if not moist this also helps keep cracking while drying dwn also. again this is gunnna be an awesome project when all dun!!

Thanks for the tips guys-keep 'em coming.  We have been spraying all the scratch down with bonding admix before, but have not tried some of the other ideas. Today will be more practice. I do know that next time around, we will pay much closer attention to proper scratch coat, as I don't think we were nearly aggressive enough with this. Today I move to a bigger open area, where I can get some production.

David, this is a great project. There's more to it than i thought. It's looking really good. I don't know if you have been doing this with the carve coat but i find it really helps to take a hand full of mix and really smear it into the scratch coat first and then apply the rest of the mix. I had a lot less failures after i started doing that.

Thanks again guys. I really messed up on scratch, not nearly thick and aggressive enough. This is our training camp, though, so it should get better from here.

Yes Kenny, it' all KirtBag. We love it. It has a great consistency-I like the way it trowels out smooth. The working time is hard to believe, which has helped us because we're so slow right now. In defense of other mixes, we are beginners and have only used Jeff's stuff, so have nothing to reference to. That said, Kirt Bag is da bomb! Get some and get dirty!
