I laid 6 x 6 metal wire reinforcement in a bed of regular concrete to form the lower basin. Covered that with 45mil EPDM pond liner. Covered pond liner with expanded metal lathe and added a 2+ inch layer of concrete (mortar/stucco plaster mix). Used Xypex concentrate slurried over the concrete layer to provide additional waterproofing.
