Thanks. I wanted it to look real old and worn, so I started by washing it with a sponge dipped in gray release powder. I use water based transparent stains, and dilute very much, often 10:1. I alternated brown and amber until I had the color I wanted, then antiqued with a blend of black and pearl white to gray it up more, then finished with a real light coat of black to add some more depth. The sealer was a flat laquer. The job is in a pub, and it was lots of fun to be there on opening night and watch people walk around it like they would fall through if they stepped on it. The staff tell everyone that it's where the leprechauns come out of at night!
