hey terry! one way would be to use straight portland cement no sand and a bit of bondinng agent mixed in. should do the trick. you might try and scrape the crack out a bit before filling also to give you a better fill.
I agree with Scott, I had a similar problem and I did exactly as Scott said.
I had to use frames of other carpenters but I got these cracks away.
You might try Rapid Set hydraulic cement. It does not shrink. No sand.
Although I am not an artisan, I have worked with cement many times. I think that Scott's advice is right on, but you may want to be sure that there is not something above or below your piece that is rattling it and causing these cracks. Looks like your photo is taken in an office (I could be wrong), it could be that above the ceiling there is an AC unit that will shake and cause vibration, or it could be the substrate is loose. Just an idea... Looks like your piece is a creative addition to this space. Rock on.
I dont know if this was lathed, but if you have plywood that meets in corners, the seam of the plywood will transfer through and crack the concrete in the same place. Also, sometimes if the scratch isnt thick enough it will do this also.
What mix was used?
Thanks guys for the replys and suggestions. Nothing above or below. Framing was anchored to slab plywood does meet in corner nailed to 2x6 double lathed very thick and rough scratch.. its not attached at top except where arch crooses over to other wall which hasn't cracked..(as of yet) :) I will try the bonder and just portland and see what happens. Got most of the coloring finished today.
Vertifaux--the first two walls I did with trupac no cracks. I am not saying its the mix has to be the way I had to build..its a metal building with 16 ft height and drop ceilings. i know its a weak area but tried to patch and keep getting same results just filling with regular mix.
Unfortunatley with concrete, this happens. You can do everything under the sun to prevent it and it still happens. The advice for filling it should work for you.
Thanks Jeff
