Naica Crystal Cave

Hi David. If you are referring to the pots or pedestals. Those were done with ferro cement. If referring to mosaics and what's underneath, mortar and thinset over armature.

David, the sphynx was made with gray cement, white sand, and liquid black colorant that I stirred in at the end of mixing so that it had some striations. Poured into a cylinder mold made from metal flashing. I had studied pics off the net of other sphynxes. And drew mine to fit the mold. It was a long complicated carve. Took about 6 - 8 hours, if I remember correctly.

About a year ago I found a picture of a door, and since I'm a faux finisher, I decided to go for it.
So, I had in front of me six panel metal exterior door, that I supposed to "create" an antique wood door with old hinges
Hardware was very hard to find........so why not to try with concrete... crazy, uh?...Well...check the pictures...

Thank you David. We have been working on this process for the better part of seven years. The mix is 1 1/2" thick on the countertops. We have finally gotten our limestone mix in bags to resell. I have looked at your photos and saw that you are a Shirestone man. They contacted us about four years ago about training. I told them at that time we already had a mix and a method we like. Of course our countertops are quite a bit heaver but we sure love the system we have created. By the way your craftmanship is very good. I was very impressed with your shower as well. Keep in touch. Thanks David.
I have always used my own color system. I did use some acid stain (Brickform Turquoise) this time just to get the depth of color. I haven't come up with a green similar to the acid color yet. I was going to market my colrs but when the economy went south I put it on hold. Maybe when things pick up again.

Thanks for your comment David.This was a project I did during a class
at DCI. This was engraved and stained over a micro topping.The micro
topping was Sgraffino by Color Maker and the stains were DCI solvent
based dyes.Many thanks to Bob Harris for his guidance and input on this project.I will be posting more photos of this and other projects soon.

Hi David,

I forgot to ask. What is the "wax dog" ? Is it the plaster wax technique used in venetian plaster? I really like it. Do you do your own stencils? Or is this drawn on? I do lots of skimcoats from a mix we have designed over the past four years. We do lots of art work on the floors. I tried to look at your website, is it working?

One other thing I really like your taste in music. I have lots of blues and the collection is growing. I know its corny but I even have the Black Snake Moan sound track. Good music is good no matter what time or place it comes from.
